This research pillar focuses on the evolving interface between macroeconomic policy coordination and international finance, situating India within a rapidly globalising and often volatile financial system. As global capital becomes increasingly mobile, the alignment or misalignment of fiscal and monetary policies becomes a decisive factor in shaping investor confidence, managing exchange rate volatility, and insulating economies from external shocks.

India presents a compelling case of policy transition, from an era of automatic debt monetisation to inflation targeting and fiscal restraint, highlighting both institutional progress and persistent vulnerabilities. In an age marked by financial contagion, sudden stops, and geopolitical realignments, the strength of domestic macroeconomic frameworks is increasingly tested by external forces. This underscores the need for coherent and forward-looking policy regimes that not only stabilise domestic fundamentals but also strategically position emerging economies like India in global capital markets. The pillar ultimately contributes to the broader debate on how macroeconomic sovereignty can be preserved while pursuing deeper financial integration.
